After two splendid months of usage where I could say no wrong about my new Macbook, unfortunately it appears to suffer from Random Shutdown Syndrom (RSS). The only way I can get it to run without it shutting itself off either immediately or after a few minutes is by booting it up in 1ghz mode by pressing and holding the power button for 15 seconds.
A staggering number of Macbook owners seem to suffer from this problem and it is a shame that an otherwise great user experience has been tainted by Apple's poor QA procedures / build quality issues.
Nevertheless, back to Apple it will go. I will forgive and forget if the quality of their after sales care is up to scratch. Only time will tell.

I had the same problem with my MacBook pro... in the end it turned out to be caused by the dodgy batch of batteries that were recalled, it only ever did it when running from battery, and I only let it do it 3 times before I started a proper investigation.
I expect that you are suffering from the same problem, see if your battery is in any batches that have been recalled, and if not, call into the Apple store and see if they'll replace it for you anyway.
Hi Lee,
Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately it does it regardless whether it is running on battery or off the mains :-(
I saw Kevin Rose on Digg having the same problem, kept rebooting in a vicious cycle.
Hi Charles,
Yeh I saw that, but it actually happened after I sent my mac back. Apple were really great actually fixed it within a week (replaced the heat sink). So, they've redeemed themselves.
